ORQ's first no
Last weekend's plan to offer ORQ outside P.S. 1 was derailed by a last-minute trip to DC to help my parents organize their apartment. They have finally decided to move into a residence, but have to sell their apartment before they can afford to go to the new place. The realtor advised them to get rid of clutter before he took photos. So I went to help with the difficult de-cluttering process.
It's taken about two years of mulling the pros and cons for them to make the decision to leave - marked by several hospital stays by my father, mostly from falls.
When I was telling them about ORQ, my father said, without prompting, "Maybe we should try it to see what it says about moving to the residence!" This exciting idea was nipped in the pre-bud when my mother cut me off in mid-response (unlike her usual reticent self) by saying definitively "No. We've already decided!"
Of course throughout the days I was there she mentioned repeatedly that she wasn't sure moving was the right decision. But I guess she finds the idea of consulting a homemade oracle either threatening or ridiculous.
It's ok. ORQ doesn't take it personally.
